The lips and the lines around the mouth, like other areas of the face, show signs of aging as you get older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip.
Restylane Defyne® is a filler that is used for the treatment of moderate to severe smile lines and wrinkles. It is designed specifically to provide natural-looking results in these particular areas by using smaller, smoother hyaluronic acid particles than those used in other Restylane® products.
Treatment Overview
This convenient injectable anti-wrinkle treatment is performed by a highly skilled doctor in the comfort of our office. Typically, the session only takes 15 minutes to a half an hour.
At the start of the Restylane Defyne® session, the targeted areas may be marked to serve as a guide for the injector. Next, the filler injections are delivered into the desired regions. Because Defyne® contains a local anesthetic called lidocaine, the area becomes numb, helping to prevent pain during treatment. In certain cases, a topical anesthetic may also be administered beforehand for further numbing.
Once the filler has been administered and the targeted wrinkles have been addressed, the injector may massage the treated regions. This gentle massaging process ensures even distribution of the Restylane Defyne® filler product.

Over the years, moderate and severe wrinkles form in the midface area due to the skin’s declining ability to create hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a substance that keeps the skin tight and is partially responsible for the face’s youthful volume.
To restore hyaluronic acid in the skin tissues, dermatologists inject fillers like Restylane Defyne®. Restylane Defyne® is composed of synthetic hyaluronic acid, making it an ideal filler choice. Once injected, HA bonds with the molecules in the skin tissues, creating instant and lasting volume.

Am I a Good Candidate?
Restylane Defyne® is an ideal choice for patients who want to address moderate or harsh midface wrinkles like the nasolabial folds and marionette lines. The nasolabial folds stretch from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth, while marionette lines stretch diagonally down from the sides of the mouth.
Most people ages 21 or older are excellent candidates for this injectable filler. If you’re looking for a more youthful aesthetic without undergoing invasive surgery, this soft-tissue dermal filler may be ideal for you.
If you’re allergic to lidocaine or any of the ingredients in Restylane Defyne®, another filler may be a better option for you. Patients with active skin infections will need to treat these issues before filler injections can be performed. Additionally, if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, it will be best to wait before coming in for Restylane Defyne®.
Patients who are interested in treating fine lines in areas like the forehead or between the brows are not ideal candidates for Restylane Defyne®. These candidates are recommended to consider one of our many injectable neuromodulator products (Botox®, Dysport®, or Daxxify®).

Avoid sun exposure, heat, pressure, and physically taxing activities like heavy exercise for a couple of days after your Restylane Defyne® treatment session. This will help to preserve your results and prevent exacerbation of any minor side effects.
Risks
Restylane Defyne® injections are generally considered to be a low-risk treatment. As with all injection-based procedures, a minor degree of swelling, bruising, and redness is to be expected. These side effects are temporary and will resolve shortly. Precise application of ice packs can aid in resolution of these minor issues.
